CHATEAU GUILLEMIN LA GAFFELIERE

APPELLATION : AOC Saint Emilion Grand Cru

VINTAGE : 2010

GRAPES : 62% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Malbec from vines with an average 50 years age.

TASTING : This deep purple wine enjoys a powerful bouquet, rich and complex, with notes of black berries. In the mouth, there is a smooth, rich taste of ripe red and black fruit, lightly oaked and supple, well-balanced tannins, followed by a slight spiciness. To be served at 16 – 18°C, this wine can be appreciated with all meats and most cheeses.

TECHNICAL DETAILS : The vineyards are on hillsides and foothills enjoying a South-West, South and South-East exposure with a mixture of clay, clay / limestone and sandy soils. Traditional ploughing is used rather than chemical weedkiller. To maintain the differing characteristics of the terroir and achieve the best ‘assemblage’, following selective harvesting by hand, there is parcel by parcel thermo-regulated vinification in individual small cuves (60 to 80 hl concrete or stainless steel depending on the grape variety and characteristics) with a long maceration of a minimum 30 days to extract the full flavour of the grapes. This is followed by twelve month’s maturing in 100% French oak barrels (one-third new each year).

DETAILS OF PROPERTY This chateau and its 14 hectares of vineyards lies in the famous Saint Emilion appellation of Bordeaux and this superb wine from the outstanding 2010 vintage is a truly special example of a Saint Emilion Grand Cru.   To be enjoyed now, or over the next 5 - 7 years.
